Co-founder and COO of Pocket Guru – explores what life purpose means to her…
I’d just like to say before you read this blog – I wrote this as a bit of a stream of consciousness, thinking I’d tidy it up after. I started by not really understanding what my life purpose is….but the more I wrote, the more I understood what I was trying to understand!
So if you take any anything from this blog…..go get a pen and paper (or laptop/phone/computer) and go write! Just write, and don’t think about what people want to hear….just think about what you have to say!
I’d also like to state that I am not a professional like our Guru’s! This is just me, writing from my head, in the hope that someone might relate to it and find it useful : )
So, Life Purpose Week! What is life purpose? I actually googled it, and this is what it said;
When we live a passion-filled life we are living on purpose, and that is the purpose of life. That feeling that something is missing goes away when you lead a passion-filled life. The need to seek our purpose comes from a lack of passion. When you don’t feel connected to your life, you lack purpose and passion
I have always had this weird feeling that I am here for a reason.. I am sure most people have the same! When I was younger, I was convinced I was put on the Earth to be the next Britney Spears… and I was determined not to leave this world without leaving my mark. I even had this crazy idea that I was constantly being filmed (like the Truman show) as part of the ‘behind the scenes development of the next Britney.’ So even if I was alone in my room, I’d be acting as if someone was filming…..I am pretty sure this was way before reality TV became so big, so that’s pretty advanced (and self obsessed) thinking!
I’ve had an amazing 20ish years doing music, alongside many other things, and fuelling my Britney passion – what an amazing journey (!) but yet, I wouldn’t say this was my life purpose. Although that journey has very much made up a massive part of my life so far.
In my singer songwriter days, I was surrounded by so many talented songwriters, and I’m pretty sure almost every one of us wrote the ‘who am I?’ song. You hit an age when you start questioning things…questioning yourself, and what you are supposed to do. Do we ever figure it out?
So living on purpose….well I can say that I live life to the full, for sure. I very much follow the Miranda/Heather Small motto of ‘what have you done today to make you feel proud’, and am very much about what I have achieved each day. But is that life purpose? To achieve a lot? And what? Surely I should have a category that I need to achieve in for it to class as a ‘life purpose? It can’t just be, to achieve?
My view, as I have said in previous blogs, is life is what you make of it. Think about what you want, and make that your purpose. I personally am not a spiritual person, although I am very open to considering that way of thinking. I don’t think you have a life purpose assigned to you, I think that you create your life purpose. (This is just my view.)
I am all about the lists, so am going to give this a go….what are my passions?
- Husband ❤
- Pocket Guru! – I love the fact that we are doing something that is going to help people, and contribute to their every day lives.
- I love being organised…..oooh maybe being the organised crazy lady I am is my life purpose! (I am just going to digress from my list for a moment) I have noticed this recently….I have become very aware through working with my extremely talented sisters on Pocket Guru where my strengths lie. I have always thought I was into marketing and the creative side of things…but I have really realised that if they give me the task of putting together some images for social media…or the task of putting together a spreadsheet that organises our finances….I’ll choose the spreadsheet and love every second of putting it together…researching different ways of doing what I am trying to do….putting bits in different colours…(that’s creative). So maybe that is my life purpose! (Nailed it!)
I have become very aware of my strengths and my weaknesses Although I wouldn’t call them weaknesses…more areas I am not so strong at (being kind to myself!). When you are younger at school you get asked about your strengths and weaknesses, as well as in job interviews. I am not sure I have ever understood my own before, however, it has become so apparent to me through my work with Pocket Guru what my strengths are.
I was going to write a line about how your job is not your life purpose…carrying on from the ‘you work to live, not live to work’ mantra, but actually, I think in some cases it can very much contribute. Do you feel your job is your life purpose? If not, then please ignore this paragraph (that’s not the end of the world….unless you want it to be…then, what would make your job your life purpose?). But I do feel that you can live your life purpose through your job. So if my life purpose is helping people and being a super duper organiser….being Chief Operational Officer for Pocket Guru Ltd is a pretty life purposing role! Wohoo!
Anyway, time for my stream of consciousness to come to some kind of ending. I would LOVE to know what your life purpose is! Whether you know it already, or if you get any closer to finding it out by having a bit of a writing session like I have above.
Enjoy Life Purpose Week. Be inspired! Life is for living!
